Why We Check Age

SpicySwingers is a strictly adults-only community. Under the UK's Online Safety Act, enforced by the regulator OFCOM, we're required to help keep under-18s out of adult services - rules that have been in force since mid-2025. The same duty reaches members in Ireland through the Irish Online Safety Code, which runs on a similar timeline and mirrors the UK framework. Even where neither rule applies, we ask everyone to confirm their age, because a community built on trust only works if every member is genuinely an adult.

At signup we ask for your date of birth and an 18+ confirmation. That is an account gate. Where required, we may also run further age-assurance checks before full access to adult content.

You can check your account's age-confirmed status at any time on your age status.

Age Assurance Methods We May Use

When a check is needed, we may offer one or more of the following (availability can depend on your device, connection, and location). Some checks can complete with little or no extra action from you - for example on an adult-unlocked mobile connection.

  • Mobile network check - checks whether your mobile connection allows adult content.
  • Text message PIN - free PIN to an adult-unlocked phone number.
  • Live selfie (age estimation) - selfie with liveness checks; often used where you appear clearly older (a challenge age may apply).
  • Selfie plus official ID - selfie paired with a passport or driving licence scan when estimation alone is not enough.
  • Credit card - a small charge on a credit card (not debit), which is 18+ only.
  • Email age verification (via AgeVerif) - age estimation / verification using your email through our provider AgeVerif.

AgeVerif Fallback

We may use AgeVerif as a verification provider and fallback so you can complete age assurance with the method that fits you, including email verification and other AgeVerif options we enable. AgeVerif processes the check; we typically receive a pass/fail style result for your account, not a standing copy of your ID images or biometrics.

What We Store

From age-assurance checks, our policy is to keep the minimum needed - usually that your account passed (or failed) - plus limited security and audit records. We do not keep standing copies of passport images, raw biometric templates, or an estimated age score on your profile after the check finishes.

Separately, date of birth collected at registration is held as account data (used for age display and eligibility), as described in our Privacy Policy.

Ongoing AI Safety Checks

Age assurance when we ask you to verify is only one layer. We also use automated AI screening on member uploads. These systems look for signs that someone shown may be under 18 or that content could suggest it. Anything flagged is held for human review before it can appear on the site - we do not rely on AI alone to approve or reject uploads. This runs alongside member reports and moderator checks to keep the community adults-only.
