Why We Check Age

SpicySwingers is a strictly adults-only community. Under the UK's Online Safety Act, enforced by the regulator OFCOM, we're required to keep under-18s out of adult services — rules that have been in force since mid-2025. The same duty reaches members in Ireland through the Irish Online Safety Code, which runs on a similar timeline and mirrors the UK framework. Even where neither rule applies, we ask everyone to confirm their age, because a community built on trust only works if every member is genuinely an adult.

Highly Effective Age Assurance

OFCOM's guidance sets a bar it calls "highly effective" age assurance, and every option below meets it. When it's your turn, we'll usually offer a few to pick from. Some members are already cleared without realising it — for instance, signing in over an adult-enabled mobile connection may have done the job.

  • Mobile network check — We read whether your provider has adult content unlocked on your line. No action needed from you.
  • Text message PIN — Request a free verification code by text; receiving it on an adult-enabled number confirms your age.
  • Live selfie (over-25 estimate) — If you appear comfortably over 25, AI estimates your age from a quick selfie and confirms a real, live person is present rather than a held-up photo or recording.
  • Selfie plus ID — If you look closer to 18, we pair the selfie with a quick scan of an official document such as a passport or driving licence, analysed in seconds.
  • Credit card — A small charge to a credit card (debit cards won't work, since credit accounts are 18+ only) confirms your age and also upgrades you to Site Supporter.

Ongoing AI safety checks

Age assurance when we ask you to verify is only one layer. We also use automated AI screening on photos and videos members upload. These systems look for signs that someone shown may be under 18 or that content could suggest it. Anything flagged is held for human review before it can appear on the site — we don’t rely on AI alone to approve or reject uploads. This runs alongside member reports and moderator checks to keep the community adults-only.

Designed for Privacy

We keep as little as possible. Following ICO guidance on age-assurance data, we don't retain your date of birth, any biometric data, or an estimated age — the only thing we store is that this account passed.
